We continue our blog series with perhaps the most diverse district: Neubau. It’s not easy to limit ourselves to a few highlights here, as there is simply so much to see. However, what you definitely should not remove from your must-see list, we will tell you today.
The Spittelberg district is a lovingly revitalized Biedermeier area with countless beautiful buildings and is perfect for a spring walk. Due to its numerous restaurants, bars, and cozy Viennese taverns with typical beer gardens, Spittelberg is often referred to as a "village in the city." How nice that we can once again take advantage of this offer starting today. This neighborhood simply exerts a very special, unique charm. In our opinion, it is a must-see. Our tip: The small, romantic alleyways are also particularly worth seeing. So make sure not to miss them!
We at AKKADIA love coffee, which is why we can't miss giving a tip here: Café Westend – a typical institution of the Viennese coffee house scene. With its high, stucco-decorated ceilings, this café has a very special flair and ambiance. So if you feel the urge for a break after strolling along Mariahilfer Straße, be sure to stop by Westend. As a small refreshment, we recommend a classic Viennese Melange with a large piece of apple strudel.
The new district architecturally has a lot to offer; there are especially many Gründerzeit buildings and significant structures like the People's Theatre or the Palais Trautson. There are also some noteworthy churches, such as the Altlerchenfeld Parish Church, which is of great art-historical significance as it represents a transitional work between Classicism and Historicism. One should not forget the MuseumsQuartier, which perfectly combines old buildings with modern architecture and is also a true Mecca for art and culture enthusiasts with its over 60 cultural institutions.
We are particularly pleased that the main library at Urban Loritz Platz is allowed to reopen. The library offers a wide range of various media, great events, and readings. Unfortunately, the latter two must currently be put on hold, but book lovers should definitely keep this in mind. Afterwards, you should also pay a visit to Café Oben. From there, you have a wonderful view of the colorful activity on the Gürtel.
And because the 7th district is mainly known for its trendy restaurants, we want to share our absolute local favorite with you: Marks on Neustiftgasse. In a wonderfully cozy atmosphere, everyone really gets their money's worth here. Marks offers freshly prepared dishes made from regional ingredients, and both vegans and meat lovers have a wide selection – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So: If you are in the area, let yourself be indulged in taste at Marks! As you can see, the 7th district with its original locations and diverse cultural offerings is simply dreamy. Are you considering moving your residence here? Then we might have just the right thing for you.
