We continue our blog series with probably the most diverse district: Neubau. It’s not easy to limit ourselves to a few highlights here, as there is so much to see. However, what you definitely should not remove from your must-see list, we will tell you about today.
The Spittelberg district is a lovingly revitalized Biedermeier area with countless beautiful buildings and is perfect for a spring walk. Due to its numerous restaurants, bars, and quaint Viennese pubs with typical beer gardens, Spittelberg is often referred to as a "village in the city." How wonderful that we can take advantage of this offer again starting today. This neighborhood simply exerts a very special, unique charm. In our opinion, it’s a must-see. Our tip: The small, romantic alleys are particularly worth seeing. So be sure not to miss them!
We at AKKADIA love coffee, so a tip must not be missing here: Café Westend – a typical institution of the Viennese coffee house scene. With its high, stucco-decorated ceilings, this café has a very special flair and ambiance. So, if you feel the urge for a break after strolling on Mariahilfer Straße, be sure to stop by Westend. As a little boost, we recommend a classic Viennese Melange with a large piece of apple strudel.
New construction really has a lot to offer architecturally; it features many Gründerzeit houses and significant buildings such as the Volkstheater and the Palais Trautson. There are also some special churches, like the Altlerchenfeld parish church, which is of great art historical significance as it represents a transitional work between Classicism and Historicism. One must also not forget the MuseumsQuartier, which perfectly combines old buildings with modern architecture and, with over 60 cultural institutions, is a true mecca for art and culture enthusiasts.
We are especially pleased that the main library at Urban Loritz Square is allowed to reopen. The library offers a large selection of various media, great events, and readings. Unfortunately, the last two must currently be omitted, but book lovers should definitely keep this in mind. Afterwards, you should also pay a visit to Café Oben. From there, you have a wonderful view of the colorful hustle and bustle at the Gürtel.
And because the 7th district is especially known for its trendy restaurants, we want to share our absolute local favorite with you: Marks in Neustiftgasse. In an incredibly cozy atmosphere, everyone really gets their money's worth here. Marks offers freshly cooked dishes from regional products and both vegans and meat lovers have a wide selection here – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So: If you’re in the area, treat yourself to a taste experience at Marks! As you can see, the 7th district, with its original locales and diverse cultural offerings, is simply dreamy. Are you considering making this your place of residence? Then we might have just the right thing for you.
