We continue our blog series with what is probably the most diverse district: Neubau. It’s not easy to limit ourselves to just a few highlights here, as there is so much to see. However, what you should definitely not cross off your must-see list, we’ll tell you today.
The Spittelberg district is a lovingly revitalized Biedermeier area with countless beautiful buildings and is perfect for a spring walk. Due to its numerous restaurants, bars, and quaint Viennese pubs with typical gardens, Spittelberg is often referred to as the "village in the city." How wonderful that we can take advantage of this offer again starting today. This neighborhood simply has a special, unique charm. In our opinion, it must be seen. Our tip: The small, romantic alleys are also particularly worth seeing. So be sure not to miss them!
We at AKKADIA love coffee, which is why we can't miss giving a tip here: Café Westend – a typical institution of the Viennese coffee house scene. With its high, stucco-decorated ceilings, this café has a very special charm and ambiance. So, if you feel the urge for a break after strolling along Mariahilfer Straße, be sure to stop by Westend. As a little snack, we also recommend a classic Viennese Melange with a large piece of apple strudel.
The new district has architecturally quite a lot to offer; there are especially many buildings from the Gründerzeit and significant structures such as the Volkstheater or the Palais Trautson. There are also some special churches, such as the Altlerchenfeld Parish Church, which is of great art historical significance as it represents a transitional work between Classicism and Historicism. One should also not forget the MuseumsQuartier, which perfectly combines old buildings with modern architecture and, with over 60 cultural institutions, is a true Mecca for art and culture enthusiasts.
We are particularly pleased that the main library at Urban Loritz Square is allowed to reopen. The library offers a large selection of many different media, great events, and readings. Unfortunately, the latter two must currently be set aside, but book lovers should definitely keep this in mind. Afterwards, you should also pay a visit to the Café Oben. From there, you have a wonderful view of the lively scene at the Gürtel.
And because the 7th district is primarily known for its trendy restaurants, we don’t want to withhold our absolute local favorite from you: Marks in Neustiftgasse. In an incredibly cozy atmosphere, everyone really gets their money’s worth here. Marks offers freshly cooked dishes made from regional products, and both vegans and meat lovers have a wide selection here – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So: If you are in the area, let yourself be pampered taste-wise at Marks! As you can see, the 7th district with its original venues and diverse cultural offerings is simply fantastic. Are you considering relocating here? Then we might have the right thing for you.
