We continue our blog series with perhaps the most diverse district: Neubau. It's quite challenging to limit ourselves to just a few highlights here, as there is an incredible amount to see. However, what you absolutely should not cross off your must-see list, we will tell you today.
The Spittelberg district is a lovingly revitalized Biedermeier area with countless beautiful buildings and is perfect for a spring stroll. Due to its numerous restaurants, bars, and quaint Vienna taverns with the typical beer gardens, Spittelberg is often referred to as a "village in the city." How wonderful that we can once again take advantage of this offer starting today. This neighborhood simply exudes a very special, unique charm. In our opinion, it must be seen. Our tip: The small, romantic alleys are particularly worth seeing. So don't miss them!
We at AKKADIA love coffee, which is why a tip is essential here: Café Westend – a typical institution of the Viennese coffee house scene. With its high, stucco-decorated ceilings, this café has a very special flair and ambiance. So if you feel the urge for a break after strolling along Mariahilfer Straße, be sure to stop by Westend. As a little treat, we recommend a classic Wiener Melange accompanied by a large slice of apple strudel.
The new district has a lot to offer architecturally; there are particularly many Gründerzeit houses and significant buildings like the People's Theatre or the Palais Trautson. There are also some special churches, such as the Old Lerchenfeld Parish Church, which is of great art historical significance as it represents a transitional work between Classicism and Historicism. One must not forget the MuseumsQuartier, which perfectly combines old buildings with modern architecture and is a true mecca for art and culture enthusiasts with over 60 cultural institutions.
We are especially pleased that the main library at Urban Loritz Platz is allowed to reopen. The library offers a wide range of various media, great events, and readings. Unfortunately, the latter two must be postponed for now, but book lovers should definitely keep this in mind. After that, you should also pay a visit to Café Oben. From there, you have a wonderful view of the lively activities at the Gürtel.
And because the 7th district is especially known for its trendy restaurants, we want to share our absolute local favorite with you: Marks on Neustiftgasse. In an incredibly cozy atmosphere, everyone truly gets their money's worth here. Marks offers freshly cooked dishes made from regional products, and both vegans and meat lovers have a wide selection – available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So: If you are in the area, let yourself be spoiled by the flavors at Marks! As you can see, the 7th district with its original venues and diverse cultural offerings is simply amazing. Are you considering moving your place of residence here? Then we might have just the thing for you.
