We continue our blog series with perhaps the most diverse district: Neubau. It’s not easy to limit ourselves to just a few highlights, as there is an incredible amount to see. However, what you definitely should not cross off your must-see list, we will tell you today.
The Spittelberg district is a lovingly revitalized Biedermeier area with countless beautiful buildings, making it perfect for a spring stroll. Due to its numerous restaurants, bars, and cozy Viennese taverns with typical gardens, Spittelberg is often referred to as a "village in the city." How wonderful it is that we can once again take advantage of this offer starting today. This neighborhood simply has a very special, unique charm. In our opinion, it is a must-see. Our tip: The small, romantic alleys are also particularly worth seeing. So be sure not to miss them!
We at AKKADIA love coffee, so we can't miss sharing a tip here: Café Westend - a typical institution of the Viennese coffee house scene. With its high, stucco-decorated ceilings, this café has a very special flair and ambiance. So if you feel the urge for a break after strolling on Mariahilfer Straße, make sure to stop by at Westend. As a little pick-me-up, we recommend a classic Viennese Melange with a large piece of apple strudel.
The new district architecturally offers quite a lot; there are particularly many Gründerzeit buildings and significant constructions such as the People's Theatre or the Palais Trautson. There are also some special churches to be found, like the Altlerchenfeld Parish Church, which is very significant from an art historical perspective, as it represents a transitional work between Classicism and Historicism. One must not forget the MuseumsQuartier, which perfectly combines old buildings with modern architecture and, with over 60 cultural institutions, is a true Mecca for art and culture enthusiasts.
We are especially pleased that the main library at Urban Loritz Square is allowed to reopen. The library offers a wide range of various media, great events, and readings. Unfortunately, the latter two must currently be omitted, but book lovers should definitely keep this in mind. Afterward, you should also visit Café Oben. From there, you have a great view of the colorful activity on the Gürtel.
And because the 7th district is especially known for its trendy restaurants, we don't want to withhold our absolute local favorite from you: Marks in Neustiftgasse. In an incredibly cozy atmosphere, everyone truly gets their money's worth here. Marks offers freshly cooked dishes made from regional products, and both vegans and meat lovers have a wide selection here – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So: If you're in the area, let yourself be spoiled by the flavors at Marks! As you can see, the 7th district with its original establishments and diverse cultural offerings is simply dreamy. Are you considering relocating here? Then we might have just the right thing for you.
