'mittendrin' is the name of the establishment founded by the VinziRast community on Währinger Straße. VinziRast is an independent association that provides homeless people not only with a sleeping place but a true home. A place of relaxation and security. With the establishment 'mittendrin', VinziRast offers some of its guests a fixed job. In addition, the net profit benefits the Vinzenzgemeinschaft St. Stephan, the sponsoring association of the VinziRast facilities. By the way: The food is incredibly good and inexpensive. A project that deserves all the support!
Between Währingerstraße, Schottenring, and Rossauer Lände lies the Servitenviertel. In this picturesque neighborhood, trendy venues, garden restaurants, and craft shops are seamlessly lined up. The Servitenviertel is often referred to as 'Little Paris'. We find this designation more than fitting! But it's not just culinary enthusiasts who will find something to enjoy. Culturally, the Servitenviertel also has a lot to offer. For example, the art-historically significant Servitenkirche or the oldest preserved cemetery in Vienna, the Jewish cemetery in Seegasse. So: Think of the Servitenviertel for your next planned walk!
At the university campus in Spitalgasse, there is the so-called Narrenturm – named after its shape and former function. The tower was built in the 18th century as the first psychiatric clinic in continental Europe. Today, it houses the pathological-anatomical collection of the Natural History Museum. But beware: the exhibition is not for the faint of heart! You will learn about the treatment methods of various diseases in the past and about the fates of the people whose body parts now serve as teaching and study material. However, those who are not too sensitive can look forward to an exciting journey into medical history.
